One of the bests dal recipe I ever tried.

Ingredients
½ cup masoor dal (you can use any types of dal)

1 onion chopped
4 garlic cloves chopped
1 big tomato chopped

1 tsp chilli powder
½ cumin powder (you can skip this and 1 sp cumin seed in ghee when you do thadka)
¼ tsp asafoetida
1 cinnamon stick
1 clove
1 cardamom
salt to taste
2 tbsp ghee
for tadka
¼ tsp asafoetida
1 died red chilli

Preparation

1)     First you have to cook that and keep it aside. Before you cook dal wash it 3-4 times. Add some water into dal and cook.
2)    In a hot pan add 2tbsp ghee. When ghee melted add chopped garlic and onion. Saute it well
3)    Once onion become translucent add chopped tomattos. Cook well
4)    Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, asafoetida and chilli powder when tomato cooked well
5)    After one minutes of stiring add cinnamon stick, clove and cardamom (or you can add these before adding garlic clove into ghee)
6)    Now add cooked dal along with water. Cook at medium high flame for 3-4 minutes. Then switch off the flame
7)    In a separate pan heat 1 ½ tbsp ghee. Add asafoetida then dreid red chilli. After few seconds switch off the flame and pour this into the dal fry.
8)    It go well with chapatis and pooris
